Change begins at home

When we talk about changing the world

what we’re really talking about is changing other people.

But the truth is

it’s hard enough to change our own minds

let alone those of others.

So we stop speaking up for what we believe in.

Or we end up shouting into the void

just to feel like we’ve done something

no matter how ineffective it might be.

But real change starts closer to home.

It starts with the people around us.

The ones who are already open to change

because they respect us

care for us

and are willing to listen.

And just as the most interesting people are often the most interested

the key to influence lies in being open to being influenced yourself.

So to change others

we have to be open to being changed ourselves.

And whether we realise it or not

when we change ourselves

we change our world.
