Inwards, onwards & upwards
A journal of invitations, ideas & inspiration to keep you moving from where you are to where you want to be
Do you have agency?
Sometimes it can feel like we’re shouting into the void.
That our greatest ideas, our deepest fears, our strongest feelings fall on deaf ears.
Or worse: that we aren’t able to give voice to them in the first place.
Two heads are better than one
This month, I am training a new cohort of aspiring Artistic Directors and launching a new Coaching Group for aspiring Executive Directors.
Against the backdrop of a new Prime Minister, I have therefore found myself thinking a great deal about leadership.
Work alone can’t fulfil you—here’s why.
Clients often come to me searching for more meaning in their work.
But sometimes, it’s not the work that needs to change;
it’s their expectations.
Searching for fulfilment? Look no further.
Here’s the combined wisdom of my 43 years on this planet in four bullet points and a quote.
This, I reckon, is the closest I can get with any kind of certainty to fulfillment:
Often we find unhappiness lurking in the gap
The gap between how we expected things to be and how they actually are.
The gap between what the world believes to be true of us and what we know to be true of ourselves.
The gap between who we feel we should be and who we actually want to be.
So we’re faced with a choice.
Acting is reacting: feel the feel, then take the wheel.
After 20 years as a professional processor of emotion, here is what I have noticed about feelings.
How to get a Michelin Star
There’s a scene in FX’s brilliant series The Bear on Disney+ where someone turns to Jeremy Allen Whites character and says:
‘You want a star?
You’re going to have to care about everything more than anything.’
And it accidentally encapsulates exactly what it is like to lead.
